2018 holland project - short circuit

web-based confessional in which users must verify their humanity prior to viewing the video.
while in the 'confessional' room a webcam is recording. the video is processed in max msp and affected by the audio input on the webcam.
this is projected into the 'control' room.

‘confessional’ contains a re-captcha to confirm the viewer’s humanity. after entering proving humanity, the viewer begins confession, in which their confession is broadcasted into the next room for other viewers. this room contains motion sensors that react to movement and trigger distorting effects on the video feed of the confessional. these motion sensors also trigger sounds and tones simulating the experience of overstimulation of omnipotent voyeurism.

arduino uno, sonic sensor, LED, max msp, ableton.
on-line is a motion-activated soundscape intended to simulate the constant logging on and off internet users. on-line looks at the rise and fall of online activity as similar to the crests and troughs of the ocean surface. these features can be individually recognizable but exist as one connected system. actions can ripple across the surface of this system. sonically, on-line pulls from explorations of theta brainwave activity applied to binaural audio in an effort to promote a meditative experience through the synchronization of theta brainwaves.

arduino uno, sonic sensor, LED, max msp, ableton.
quantifies distance readings from sonic sensors based off speed of sound calculation.
this data is then inputted in real time into max msp where it is converted to midi data, which is sent into ableton to be processed as audio.
apollo 8
projection, audio BFA thesis exhibition 2018.

apollo 8 is a projection of the live broadcast from the apollo 8 spacecraft while orbiting the moon.
the crew of apollo 8 were the first humans in lunar orbit. apollo 8’s christmas eve message was the most watched tv event to date.
nasa did not provide instructions for the broadcast, only asking the crew to do something “appropriate” for the holiday.
the crew of the apollo 8 take turn reading from the book of genesis, a selection the crew chose because of its role in the foundations of “many of the world’s religions.”

Videos and field recordings of Northern Nevada landscapes were filmed and recorded to create an abstract mixture of projections and sound to blend desert and water environments.
Landscapes: Sand Mountain, Pyramid Lake, Spanish Springs Peak, and Washoe Valley.
In collaboration with Nicholas Minor.
Installed in the Lake Mansion Pavilion Reno, Nevada.
Exhibited in part of the Holland Project Summer Event, High and Dry, July 29, 2017.
